Manchester City striker set for Roma switch after agreeing fee

Edin Dzeko’s Manchester City career looks to be over with the striker on the verge of a move to Roma.

The Blues have reportedly agreed a £14m fee with the Serie A giants for the Bosnian, according to the Manchester Evening News.

It is understood he will now travel to the Italian capital for a medical in the next few days before putting the finishing touches to the deal.

If completed, the move will bring to an end the 29 year-old’s four-and-a-half year stay at the Etihad Stadium.

He joined the Blues from Wolfsburg for £27m in January 2011 and scored a total of 72 goals in 187 appearances for the club.

They included crucial strikes such as the equaliser in the 3-2 win over QPR which set up the Blues’ last-gasp title win on the final day in 2012.

While his goals were also crucial in the run-in which saw City pip Liverpool to the Premier League crown in 2014.

He signed a new four-year deal at the club only last summer.

However, he found himself marginalised last season, with Manuel Pellegrini often preferring to play Sergio Ageuro as a lone striker, and Dzeko only managed six goals as City lost their title to Chelsea.

He also fell down the pecking order with the arrival of Wilfried Bony in January and he has made just two fleeting substitute appearances in this pre-season, scoring in one of those – Saturday’s 4-2 defeat to Stuttgart.

His departure will follow that of Stevan Jovetic, who last week joined Inter Milan on a one-and-a-half year loan with a view to a permanent deal.
