A man was last Sunday hospitalised after he collapsed following the loss of his favourite soccer teams.

The man known in Kisumu's Mamboleo estate as Gowi is an ardent soccer lover who does not take it lightly when his team loses as was the case during the weekend.

Gowi is said to have began feeling sad when Kisumu Day Secondary School lost to Passenga High School on post-match penalties on Friday July 31 during Airtel Rising Stars national school games staged at Machakos Boys.

However, he was optimistic that Gor Mahia and Chelsea FC, his other teams would lift Cecafa Kagame Club Championship and English Premier League's (EPL) Community Shield respectively on Sunday.

So, on Sunday, he sought to accompany his boss to watch the teams before he could drop him home. The two joined other fans at an entertainment joint in the lakeside city an hour before the Gor match kick-off.

When the game began and Tanzanian side Azam FC scored in the 14th minute, he was seen cheering wildly, hoping that the Kenyan team will equalize and score a winner to carry the cup home.

When Gor Mahia was beaten 2-0, he murmured to the boss that his only hope now lies with Chelsea.

When Arsenal's Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain's goal secured a 1-0 win against the Premier League champions at Wembley, Gowi collapsed.

He had to be rushed to a nearby private clinic where a doctor applied first aid before diagnosing his condition.

The doctor later revealed that Gowi had suffered a heart attack and recommended a bed rest for two weeks.

The boss had to call Gowi's sister from Kendu Bay in Homa Bay County to come and take care of his brother and two children, who attend a local public primary school.

Gowi had earlier taken his wife, baby and maid to Kericho where the wife attends a local university.

Local Gor Mahia supporters have been paying visits to Gowi and his home to encourage him, telling him that he shouldn't be heart-broken because Gor will win the Kenyan premier league and Chelsea will also recover from the loss when EPL resumes later this month.
