Kenyan Premier League champions Gor Mahia take on Tanzania’s Azam in the finals of the Cecafa Kagame Club Championship this afternoon at the 60,000-seater National Stadium in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.

This match promises to be an intriguing one after both teams confidently said they were ready to lift the title. Both teams are also unbeaten in the two-week long tournament.

It will be a tricky final as the teams did not meet at group stages, but both coaches have been watching their opponents’ system of play.

Gor coach Frank Nuttal said his players are in good form and will approach today’s match with a lot of caution.

“Azam play fast football and we must contain their strikers. Captain (John Bocco) and Kipre Tcheche have been lethal in all matches and we must contain them,” said the Scottish coach.

“This is a final match and no one can afford a slight mistake as that might be the end of the road.”

He added that Gor Mahia have shown a lot of improvement since the start of the tournament and can only crown it all by winning the title.

Wonder-boy Michael Olunga is the top tournament’s scorer with five goals and will be looking to pick the golden boot award.

Azams coach, Stewart Hall, admitted it would be a tough match. “Our problem is fitness. Here in Tanzania is off-season as the Premier league is set to start in September unlike in Kenya where the league is on,” said the Briton

“Gor Mahia are strong and physically fit. They have played 18 matches at their local league with an unbeaten record, which means they are a good side.”

Gor beat yanga, KMKM, Al Khartoum and Telecom in the group stages. They beat Malakia in the quarter-finals and Al Khartoum in the semi-finals.
