Former President Daniel Moi opens church in Kabarak

Retired President Daniel arap Moi has advised Kenyans to shun tribalism and focus on building a peaceful nation, devoid of hate.

"We have a good country with hardworking people. The few people with bad intentions should be encouraged to desist from their deeds," said the former President.

Moi was speaking yesterday at African Inland Church Rafiki in Kabarak where he officially opened the church that was built with his support.

He advised congregants that those who do things waiting for fellow human beings to appreciate them live very miserable lives.

"It is only God who knows our hearts. We should therefore not do things expecting to be told thank you. God will reward each one of us in His own unique ways. Let us uphold the teachings of God," he said.

Moi told the faithful how he used to trek for kilometres every Sunday to preach the gospel to children in remote villages in Kapsabet.

"The Bible tells us that disciples in heaven rejoice with happiness when one person repents. Let us therefore present our children to God and let them be taught the word of God while young," he said.

"I want this church to be expanded in the near future by way of more people turning to God because this is the best place to be," he added.

Kabarak University Vice Chancellor Jones Kaleli, who delivered the sermon during the church service, told the youth to be careful while using social media platforms.

Prof Kaleli regretted that a young man committed suicide after abusive social media posts targeted his parent.

"Facebook, Twitter and Whatsapp are new platforms which if not well used, can lead to devastating effects on society. I advise the youth to be responsible with their posts," said Prof. Kaleli.

Speaking in reference to KTN's expose on 'Prophet' Victor Kanyari, Reverend Kaleli asked Kenyans to ensure they are not swindled by misleading pastors.

"We are living in tough times and there are a lot of misleading religions and teachings," warned the VC.
