Uasin Gishu Governor targets Sh1.2 billion in revenue collection through greater efficiency

Uasin Gishu Governor Jackson Mandago has said his administration plans to get more than Sh1.2 billion in revenue collection during this financial year.

Mr Mandago urged public servants in the revenue collection department to work tirelessly and ensure that the county meets the set target, saying this would help his government improve service delivery.

"We must meet our budgetary targets for this financial year and to achieve this. we have to put measures and strategies in place," the governor said.

The county boss also said his government was committed to ensuring that services offered to residents were professional hence the need for all county public servants to sign performance contracts.

The governor was speaking at the launch of a performance contract signing ceremony for county executive committee (CEC) members at the county hall.

NO INCOMPETENCE

"The county government has no option but to ensure that residents' expectations are met through provision of efficient and timely service delivery. There is no room for incompetence during this financial year," he said.

The Public Service Committee chairperson, Josephine Tarus, said signing performance contracts was meant to ensure that every CEC member was accountable for what gets done during their time in office.

Ms Tarus said monitoring and evaluation would be carried out in every public office in the county to achieve proper service delivery.

"We are urging our CECs to work really closely with their staff members and fill the gaps while identifying weak points in their work places," she said, pledging that the matter of a huge wage bill and ghost workers would be looked into keenly.

This move by the county government is in line with the overall objective of the Capacity Assessment and Rationalisation of the Public Service (Carps) initiative that was launched by President Uhuru early this month.

Carps is expected to ensure that Government functions are properly structured and staffed to facilitate transformation of the public service for efficient and effective service delivery both at national and county levels.
