Her well-calculated strides, a blue-faded jeans and a sport cap complemented with a dazzling smile easily disarms her detractors.

But Nancy Kibaba, 31, the controversial Bungoma Member of the County Assembly, has been thrown into the murky world of politics with her nomination by Ford-Kenya to represent the interests of the youth at the County Assembly seemingly plunging the young woman into a “damage spree”.

Already, she says she is forced to keep her ears plugged as gossips claim she is linked to CORD co-principal Moses Watangula.

Yesterday, when she spoke to The Nairobian at the Afraha Stadium, in Nakuru where she is attending the Inter-Counties Games, Kibaba appeared cautious.

She refuted claims that her nomination was purely out of her loyalty to Ford-Kenya.

‘Weta’, as she kept on referring to Wetangula, was her political mentor, a close friend and a man she respected so much and wondered why people read mischief in everything she did.

After she was trounced during the party primaries for the Bungoma County Woman Representative’s position, she says Weta approached her the way someone would do to a sister.

And since he did not want to be confined to political oblivion, she says, Weta gave her two options. One was to institute a petition or to either remain silent as if nothing happened and wait for nomination as MCA.

“I definitely chose nomination knowing Weta is a man who keeps his word. It came to pass as he promised,” she notes.

Asked why she kicked out her husband of nine years Calson Okello Barasa, she curtly said Barasa, a driver, was one very uncommitted man who never paid her bills even when they lived together in a rented house in the town. She accused him of working against her and refusing to sit down to iron out issues. He says Barasa was one of those men who shy away from aggressive women who speak their mind.

She, however, claims that their woes dates back to 2012 before the campaigns began. Her efforts to reconcile, she says, bore no fruit as Barasa panicked even more after her nomination as MCA.

“Chances of accepting him back are now minimal. I don’t think I have time to babysit him now. He refused when I had a lot of time on my hands. He has never been responsible like other men,” she says.

She urges Barasa to prepare for tough times ahead as her hour clock was ticking towards serving the father of her two sons with divorce papers as she is “focused on her bright political career”.

Kibaba says she has already bought land and her four-bedroom house was coming up. She says she relocated to a three-bed roomed mansion after she was nominated and has never allowed Barasa to foot in the new and classy home.

“He won’t come to my house without my consent. That can’t happen. That is my house and I am the one paying rent. I am relocating to the four-bed roomed one when I complete it,” she says. Asked whether her association with Wetangula was the reason she is mistreating her husband, Kibaba quickly refutes the claims.

“I respect Wetangula and he is my party leader. Going to rallies with my party leader is a must,” she says. “Wetangula is a very busy man and usually ends his calls immediately he passes his message,” she says.

He, however, showered praises to Wetangula describing him as generous, understanding, approachable and sharp. She also names Fred Wetangula, a businessman and brother to Moses as his close friend but kept him out of the drama saying that their friendship ended during campaign time.

The Butere Girls High School alumni says she enrolled at the Bungoma Bible College for a Bachelor of Theology where she graduated in 2008.

She is currently pursuing Bachelor of Arts in Political science at the University of Nairobi. The first born in a family of five hails from Sirisia.
