TSC: Filling up commissioners posts begins

The process to fill vacant positions at the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has started in earnest with a paid up advertisement calling for applications.

A panel set up by President Uhuru Kenyatta set August 8 as the final date for interested candidates to submit their requests to be considered for the five TSC commissioners' posts.

Members of Parliament, serving members of a governing body of a political party and members of local authority will not be considered. Also locked out are persons found to have misused or abused state office. The communication in a local daily did not however limit applications to certain regions.

Sources said the panel would be forced to limit the positions to only five regions and lock out the three currently represented at the TSC. Commissioners Cleopas Tirop currently represents Rift Valley, Dr Salome Gichura represents Central region as Saadia Abdi Kontoma represents North Eastern region.

“This means only candidates from Western, Nyanza, Coast, Nairobi, Eastern will apply and this will be the start of success or failure of the team,” said the source who served under the previous recruitment panel.

The President appointed former Education Permanent Secretaries Karega Mutahi and George Godia to the selection panel in a special gazette notice. Others are John Kipkorir, Esther Muhanji, Joseph Chirchir and Jean Njeri Muhoho. Godia worked under former PS Karega for close to eight years at the ministry.

The recruited persons will replace former Commissioners David Kuno, Rose Mogoi Sereti, Meshack Llanziva, Monica Kilonzo and Lucy Njeru who vacated their offices two years ago.
