Nairobi, Kenya: A bodyguard attached to Imenti Central MP Gideon Mwiti Irea was Wednesday night robbed of his gun loaded with 14 bullets in an attack at a wines and spirit joint in Ngara area, Nairobi.

Police said the victim had walked into the joint and joined his colleagues when gunmen confronted him at gunpoint and grabbed his gun.

According to Nairobi police boss Benson Kibue, no arrest has been made so far and efforts to trace the weapon are ongoing.

“It seems they knew him well before they attacked but efforts to trace them are ongoing,” said Kibue.

The robbery is a blow to police who are struggling to get illegal guns in the wrong hands after the lapse of a two-week ultimatum that was issued by President Kenyatta on April 4.

No weapon has been surrendered as per the order and police are preparing to launch a major operation for them.
