President Uhuru Kenyatta to lead five cabinet secretaries for a state visit to Qatar

NAIROBI, KENYA: President Uhuru Kenyatta, First Lady Margaret Kenyatta and five Cabinet Secretaries leave the country on Monday for three-day state visit to Qatar.

A statement from Statehouse Spokesman Manoah Esipisu said that during the visit the President will meet His Highness the Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al-Thani, and other senior Qatari government officials to discuss various avenues of cooperation between the two countries.

“President Kenyatta will also hold talks with Qatari Energy Minister, Mohamed Saleh Al Sada, who will be accompanied by QatarGas Chief Executive Officer, Sheikh Khalid Bin Khalifa Al-Thani, Qatar Electricity and Water Company (QEWC) General Manager, Fahad Hamad Al-Mohannadi, and Qatar Petroleum International Chief Executive Office, Nasser Al Jaidah. The meeting will focus on how the governments of Kenya and Qatar, in conjunction with the private sector, can cooperate in mutually beneficial energy projects. Qatar possesses demonstrated expertise in energy production.” Reads the statement.

During the visit in Kenya’s energy security agenda will feature prominently, Uhuru is expected to encourage Qataris to take interest in Kenya’s energy sector.

Other engagements on the President’s itinerary while in Doha include meetings with leading figures in Qatar’s private sector, the Qatari Defence Minister, Hamad Bin Ali Al Attiyah, and Transport Minister Jassim Seif Al-Sulaiti.

The President will also meet with representatives of the Kenyan diaspora.

President Kenyatta’s delegation will include Cabinet Secretaries Amb Amina Mohamed of Foreign Affairs, Davis Chirchir of Energy, Eng Michael Kamau of Transport, Henry Rotich of the National Treasury, and Adan Mohamed of the Ministry of Industrialization.
