Maseno School of Lake Region powered their way to the semi-finals of the Brookeside National Secondary Schools Term One games at Shimo La Tewa High School ground in Mombasa County.

Maseno, who are among the top rated teams in the championship registered their second victory yesterday.

The semi-finalists out-paced Kangaru School of Northern Region 10-3 to officially qualify for the last four stage of the competition with a match in hand against Shimba Hills today.

In yesterday’s match, Kedemy Kanjala made the first touchdown before Jeremy Odhiambo sprinted from the centre dodging his opponents to make the second try for the 10 points lead. Kangaru reduced the scores through a penalty kick scored by Renson Zoka.

Maseno got off to a flying start on the first day after beating Alliance Boys of Aberdare Region 16-5. Alliance recovered yesterday to score a last minute try to knock out Shimba Hills of Mombasa 17-14.

Alliance must beat Kangaru this morning to qualify for the semi-finals to be played tomorrow morning.

In the Alliance Boys and Shimba Hills match, Wilson Mbuthia scored two tries, with one of them converted by Paul Mutune before Jasper Okoth scored a last minute try to sink Shimba Hills. The Mombasa based side had taken a comfortable lead but had nothing to offer as their opponents upped their game. Edwin Odongo touched down twice with Philip Mbise converting.
