EMBU COUNTY: A Notice of Motion to impeach Embu Governor Martin Wambora, who was reinstated Wednesday, has already been filed with the Speaker of Embu County Assembly.

Speaker Justus Mate, who spoke moments after the High Court sitting in Kerugoya reinstated Wambora, announced he will scrutinise the court ruling before certifying the notice. Mate said the Assembly had received the High Court ruling and said they would respect it as per the Constitution.

He, however, noted that the ruling did not absolve Wambora of the corruption and abuse of office charges that led his impeachment in January. The Speaker termed the verdict as disturbing specifically the part that cited him for contempt of court, saying he was doing his constitutional duties.

Mate warned that the issue might compel speakers to operate under fear while discharging their duties. MCAs led by Majority Leader Andrew Musakwa expressed their concern at the verdict claiming that Wambora’s supporters were in a celebration mood more than a week before Wednesday’s ruling.

Deputy Speaker Ibrahim Swaleh, who had moved the January motion that led to Wambora’s impeachment, wondered if the supporters were privy to the judge’s ruling even before the determination. Swaleh said a process to impeach Wambora afresh will commence next week and will integrate the faults identified by the court. He said the assembly will continue with its accountability without fear or favour. News of Wambora reinstatement as Embu Governor were received with mixed feelings as some celebrated while others wondered how the embattled Governor will manage the affairs of the county under the divided loyalties.
