ERC raises petrol prices, slashes cost of diesel and kerosene

Kenya; The retail price of super petrol will go up by a slight margin beginning this morning, after the Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) issued new price guidelines.

In its monthly price-capping, ERC reduced marginally the maximum prices on diesel by Sh1.05 and kerosene by 75 cents.

According to the ERC prices for April-May, retail price of super petrol will increase by 55 cents to retail at a maximum of Sh114.16 in Nairobi from Sh113.61.

Imported products

Diesel will now retail at Sh103.82 from Sh105.80 while kerosene will go down to Sh83.16 from last month’s Sh83.91.

“Taking into account the weighted average costs of imported products, the overall maximum allowed price of diesel decreases by Sh1.05, that of kerosene decreases by Sh0.75 while that of super petrol increases y Sh0.55,” said ERC in a statement yesterday.

Over the month of March, the price of crude decreased marginally to $108.30 (Sh9,360 from $109.95 (Sh9428) in February. The local currency however slightly weakened and traded at an average of Sh86.51 to the dollar compared to Sh86.30 in February.

In its price capping formula, ERC said it factors in all costs incurred prudently the players in the petroleum supply chain while at the same ensuring that retail prices are fair to consumers.
