Police on spot over fake bank data

Kenya: At least 12 senior officers who were recently vetted have been asked to provide more information regarding their bank accounts.

This is after it emerged they did not provide the correct accounts as required by law. They have all received letters from their employer, National Police Service Commission, requiring them to clarify by today ahead of the planned release of their results later in the week.

According to informed sources, the officers are drawn from regular, CID and Administration Police. Other officers have been urged to come clean on complaints lodged against them after they appeared before the vetting panels. Fresh investigations had been launched on 62 officers of the ranks of Assistant Commissioner of Police and Senior Assistant Commissioner of Police before it narrowed down to the 12.

1,000 OCPDs

Officials said this affected the earlier planned release of the results of the entire group of the newly vetted 165 officers.

The commission now plans to start a tour of Coast and Eastern regions for sensitisation programme on the targeted OCPDs, their deputies and the public before the real vetting begins later this month.  The more than 1,000 OCPDs and their deputies will be vetted at county levels.
