NAIROBI, KENYA: Thirty-one youths were Saturday night arrested in Nairobi for mugging and other violent crimes during and after the performance of Jamaican dancehall music star Konshens.

Konshens had been performing at KICC in Nairobi during a Guinness campaign launch when the attacks happened.

Police said the muggers had been attacking and robbing pedestrians near the venue of the event when they were nabbed.

Head of operations in Nairobi Wilfred Mbithi said those arrested were detained at the Central police station and are set to appear in court today.

“These were criminals who were out to terrorise people out to enjoy their night. We are dealing with them,” said Mbithi.

Security was tight at the event but police say most of those arrested were attacking pedestrians who were walking out of KICC.

The turnout was good at the event.

With hit songs such as Pull Up to mi Bumper, Walk And Wine, Bounce, Garfield Spence aka Konshens thrilled his fans for almost an hour even as it rained.

Elsewhere, two suspected thugs were shot dead in Nairobi in the fight against crime.

The first suspect is said to have been in the company of three others and had been attacking residents of Soweto slums when an alarm was raised. The suspect was also found with a mobile phone that had been grabbed from a resident. Police say they are looking for more suspects who managed to escape on foot in the shooting incident.

And a wanted suspect was Saturday morning shot dead in Kiserian area, Nairobi and pistol loaded with five bullets.

The man identified as Peter Njenga Wanjohi is accused of having attacked among others Samburu East MP Raphael Letimalo in a robbery outside his compound two weeks ago in Ongata Rongai.

Police say Wanjohi was shot dead when a team of Flying Squad detectives raided his house in Kiserian. He is also accused of having robbed former ECK official Abuya Abuya and killed a KPLC staff last month.
