President Uhuru Kenyatta lauds disciplined forces’ service to the country

Nairobi, Kenya: President Uhuru Kenyatta Sunday expressed his gratitude to men and women in the disciplined forces for the service they render to the country.

The president said his government will do everything possible to improve their welfare, and ensure they discharge their duties accordingly.

“It is the intention of my government to increase your budget allocation annually to ensure you perform your duties well,” said Uhuru.

Uhuru was speaking during a joint prayer service for the disciplined forces which was held at the Holy family Basilica, Nairobi. The officers were praying for their work, families and for those who have died in the line of duty.

The service was attended by officers from the Kenya Police, Kenya Prisons, Administration police, Kenya Wildlife Service, Kenya Forest Service and the National Youth Service.

It was presided over by the Bishop of Meru Catholic Diocese, Rt Rev Salesius Mugambi.

President Uhuru reiterated the call for Kenyans to take the security obligation by ensuring that they are not living with the enemy.

“The people who cost our security are not far, they live within us. Security is the obligation of every single citizen,” said Uhuru.

Deputy President William Ruto also congratulated the disciplined forces, saying it can never be taked for granted that they haveput their lives in danger to protect the country.

Kenya has for a long time now grappled with rampant cases of insecurity ranging from abductions, terror attacks and inter-clan clashes.

The recent attack was at the Westgate shopping mall which left the country and the world looking for answers as to whether the security systems are well equipment to protect the citizens.

Over 67 lives were lost in the attack, which is among the worst ever experienced in Kenya.
