Nairobi, KENYA: The Kenya Defence Forces have taken over rescue operations at the Westgate Mall in Westlands, Nairobi. The attack which has lasted for more than five hours has seen more than 20 people killed and 50 wounded according to the Red Cross.
The deputy President William Ruto has also sent his condolences to the families of the victims saying that the government will ensure that the siege will be brought to end get to the bottom of the attack.
“We will bring to account the perpetrators and their accomplices,” stated the statement.
Meanwhile the government says it’s still too early to say who the attackers are and the motive behind the attack. Interior
Principal Secretary Mutea Iringo has assured the nation that the government is fully in charge and has deployed special units in the area.
He has also called upon the public to avoid crowding the area adding that the media should be sensitive on the type of footage it air.
