Local rally organisers hope to take their skills to a different level when the three-day FIA marshals and controllers seminar starts at Simba Lodge in Naivasha on Friday.
The three-day FIA seminar brings together delegates from all Kenya Motor Sports Federation (KMSF)-local affiliate motor Clubs ahead of Sunday’s Kenya International Autocross 8 at Jamhuri Park track.
According to KMSF General Manager, Mwaura Njoroge, the course is intended to hone the skills of Club officials to empower its rally personnel with skills on how to run events more professionally.
“This is an opportunity to give motor clubs an opportunity to keep abreast with new rules besides implementing existing ones,” said Mwaura.
The course comes three months after KMSF hosted the FIA African Rally Championship series event – the KCB Safari Rally 2012 – and scored well on the observer scorecard. Ralf Stead, from Zimbabwe was the FIA observer handling the Kenyan ARC event.
The course, said Mwaura and organisers Dali Kalsi, and Pipi Renu is a partnership between KMSF and the World Motor Sports Governing body, Federation Internationale de L’Automobile (FIA). Renu said FIA has appointed Motorsports Association UK to conduct the seminar.
The course, which will be conducted by Jon Binns and Ian Jarrett from the MSA International Training Team, is envisaged to impart valuable experience on personal safety, event planning and safety, incident management, report writing and timing to Kenyan marshals who will in turn use this knowledge in running upcoming Kenya National Rally Championship events.
Clubs expected for the event are Western Kenya Motor Club from Eldoret, Mombasa Motor Club, Nakuru based-Rift Valley Motor and Sports Club, Sikh Union Nairobi and Nanyuki Rally Group among others
