Kosgey returns to Cabinet after court battles

Tinderet MP Henry Kosgey has been re-appointed to the Cabinet in a move that could boost his political career and bolster ODM fortunes ahead of elections.

A one-paragraph dispatch to newsrooms yesterday from State House stated: “President Kibaki has today re-appointed Henry Kosgey into the Cabinet. Kosgey resumes his duties at the Ministry of Industrialisation with immediate effect.”

And although this has long been forthcoming, it is not clear why the principals opted not to fill the other equally vacant Cabinet slots, particularly the crucial Internal Security docket, previously held by the late George Saitoti.

Other vacant Cabinet slots include Local Government currently held by Fred Gumo in an acting capacity and Internal Security Assistant minister, previously held by the late Ndhiwa MP Orwa Ojodeh, who perished alongside Saitoti in the June 10 plane crash.

Recently cleared of charges as one of the post-election violence perpetrators at The Hague and for misuse of his office, things could not be better for the Tinderet MP, who only a couple of months ago appeared destined to the doldrums.
