A secondary school head teacher in Nyamira County is on the run after he allegedly failed to register 22 candidates for KCSE exams.
The Form Four students at St Albert Girango Secondary School in Kitutu-Masaba constituency received with shock news that they would not sit examinations.
The candidates noted the anomaly a few weeks ago as they sat for mock examinations.
“We were given photocopied question papers instead of original. After checking our registration status on Kenya National Examination Council (Knec) website, we were shocked to realise we were not registered yet we had paid the fees,” said a student.
Masaba North DC David Rop, who is the District Education Board chairman, said police were looking for the teacher. “He will be arrested to answer to charges of fraud in court. We wish to reassure parents and students that we have intervened in time and the students will be registered,” said Rop.
Kitutu Masaba MP Walter Nyambati held talks with the Ministry of Education and Knec last week to allow the students to be registered. Nyambati asked students to remain calm.
Beat deadline
He said he had used Sh250,000 from the Constituency Development Fund to pay for late registration and hoped the students would be registered. In March, Knec CEO Paul Wasanga advised candidates to register early before deadline, which was at the end of that month.
Students were to register online. This system was to help curb cases of principals failing to register students.
