Two businessmen were shot dead by unknown number of gunmen in a robbery incident at dawn in Nakuru town.
The two were shot dead by gunmen in Kokoto area along Nakuru- Nyahururu road at around 6am on Thursday and unknown amount of money stolen from them.
The victims were livestock traders and were heading to Rumuruti in Laikipia to buy cows at an auction ring when gunmen who were trailing them from Nakuru town struck.
The two died on the spot while a third person sustained bullet wounds on his hand.
Another two managed to escape through a maize plantation after the driver lost control of the vehicle by landing onto a fence.
The driver who was among those who perished at the scene is a well-known livestock auctioneer in Koibatek, Mogotio, Laikipia and even Baringo.
The five are said to have spend the night in Nakuru after attending another auction at Kapkamundu in Banita on Wednesday.
Subukia OCPD Jacinta Wesonga confirmed the incident saying police have launched a manhunt in a bid to arrest the two suspects who escaped.
Ms Wesonga identified the victims as Wilson Cheruiyot, a businessman and his counterpart Gilbert Toroitich.
The injured man Mr Richard Kosgey was treated and discharged at Nakuru provincial hospital. The bodies of the deceased were taken to War Memorial mortuary.
The police said the gang which had been trailing them using a motorcycle drove away soon after the shooting but another group arrived at the scene using a small saloon car and ransacked the victims before also fleeing.
