Tullow Oil Plc is now set to move to Nyakach in Kisumu County barely six months after discovering oil in Turkana.

Officials from the company were recently in Nyakach, an area they suspect has massive oil deposits, to start exploring the commodity.

Sources told The Standard that the company intends to carry out drilling tests in the area before the end of the year.

Area District Commissioner Chagawa wa Chagawa confirmed on Tuesday on receiving officials from the company, saying the Government was also doing a geographical mapping in parts of the district.

“Tullow officials will be here in a month’s time to do one to two things,” he said.

Area MP Polyns Ochieng said locals must be involved before the company starts its full operations in the area. He said Nyakach is one of the areas geographically listed under Block 13T. He said residents of Nyalunga and Bolo villages have for the last few months been getting oil floating in water.
